ExchangeRates.Pro field manual
Exchange types: CEX, broker, rate monitor, and P2P
Compare centralized exchanges, brokers, rate monitors, and P2P marketplaces by custody, execution, payment route, and risk.
The word “exchange” covers several different products. The cheapest-looking row can lead to a trading account, a fixed-price checkout, a marketplace counterparty, or another rate monitor. Know the model before you send money.
Centralized exchange (CEX)
A centralized exchange maintains customer accounts and an order book. You deposit funds, trade against available liquidity, and later withdraw. The visible market price is not the full route: deposit charges, trading fees, spread, withdrawal fees, network choice, and minimums can change the result.
Useful for: liquid markets, limit orders, and repeated trading.
Check: legal availability, identity requirements, custody risk, order-book depth, all fees, and whether deposits and withdrawals are operating.
Broker or instant-buy service
A broker quotes a checkout price and executes the purchase for you. The interface may be simpler, but convenience is often included in the spread or fee. Some services deliver crypto to your wallet; others leave it in a custodial account.
Useful for: a straightforward one-off purchase when the complete quote is competitive.
Check: final amount received, payment fee, delivery method, refund policy, and who actually processes the payment.
P2P marketplace
A P2P marketplace connects buyers and sellers and may hold crypto in escrow while fiat moves directly between them. Each advertisement can specify a bank, wallet, cash route, limits, and counterparty terms.
Useful for: local payment methods and markets not well served by card or bank deposits.
Check: the exact advertiser, completed-trade history, escrow status, payment name rules, dispute procedure, and chargeback risk. Keep the conversation and payment inside the platform. Never release escrow because of a screenshot.
Rate monitor or exchanger directory
A rate monitor aggregates quotes from third-party exchangers. It does not execute the trade. A listing can be useful discovery, but the destination may have its own pair selection, reserve, identity checks, and final rate. Confirm that the landing page still matches your intended direction and payment method.
Useful for: finding specialist exchangers and routes.
Check: destination identity, final order form, reserve, reputation evidence, and the monitor’s role. Do not assume its listing is a live guarantee.
How ExchangeRates.Pro fits
ExchangeRates.Pro compares evidence from several venue types in one table. The source label, payment method, freshness, and available fee context help you distinguish them. Rows are ranked from observed data; we do not execute orders, hold funds, guarantee inventory, or replace the venue’s final checkout.
Choose the model that matches the transaction—not the smallest headline number. For a large amount, compare a realistic quote, test the route with a small transfer, and keep records.
